Building a Greener Future: Reflections on Greenbuild 2024

The BREEAM USA team joined other industry leaders to exchange insights and advance sustainable solutions for the future of real estate in 2025 and beyond.

As we prepared to wind down on another pivotal year for the sustainable building industry, this year’s Greenbuild Conference & Expo in Philadelphia brought together thousands of changemakers, innovators, and thought leaders from across the green building community.

While we navigate an increasingly complex landscape — marked by tighter funding environments and challenges surrounding the advancement and adoption of impactful, sustainable solutions — moments like this remind us of the value of coming together to drive progress. Discussions centered on the future of sustainable real estate and the actionable tactics organizations can take to reduce environmental impact, reinforcing the economic, social, and environmental benefits of thoughtful, sustainable strategies across all phases of the building lifecycle. These conversations, which challenged us to think boldly about how we can all contribute to shaping a more sustainable built environment, reinforced our commitment to driving meaningful change within our industry and beyond.

For BREEAM, a clear highlight of the event was our joint happy hour — coordinated alongside our partners Cushman & Wakefield, UL Solutions, and Antenna Group — at City Tap House in Philadelphia’s Logan Square district. We were thrilled to have the opportunity to connect with so many members of our USA network. The energy, ideas, and camaraderie shared over delicious food and drinks were a testament to the power of community in driving sustainable progress.
