Email BIM@bregroup.com for an application form. Complete and submit this form. If you are eligible for certification, you will be invoiced for the certification fee. Upon receipt of payment BRE will send you the assessment form(s).

Step 4: Assessment

A BRE auditor will assess your submission.

Step 5: Certification

Congratulations, you have achieved BIM certification. A BRE certificate will be issued on successful completion of the assessment.

Step 6: Maintenance

Certification is maintained through payment of the annual fees and fulfilment of continuing professional development (CPD) requirements. If you want to remain certified, you must reapply every three years.

Our UKAS accredited scheme certifies an organisations’ capability to input into the information management process for the delivery phase of projects, and produce outputs from that process.

Step 1: Application

Submit your company’s application for BIM certification.

Step 2: Desktop Assessment

A BRE auditor will conduct an assessment of your BIM documentation and issue a report. You will have the opportunity to address any issues raised and you must complete this before moving to the next step.

Step 3: Onsite assessment

A BRE auditor will assess your application of the information management process through appointments and issue a report. Again, you will have the opportunity to address any issues raised and you must complete this step before achieving certification.

Step 4: Certification

Congratulations, your business has achieved ISO 19650-2 2018 certification. You will have use of the BRE certification mark to demonstrate and promote your certification. To maintain the certification, you’ll need to complete annual audits.

Initial application and assessment costs for first year are as follows:

  • BIM Informed Professional (BIP) Certification: £550+VAT

  • Task Information Management (TIM) Practitioner Certification: £660+VAT

  • Project Information Management (PIM) Practitioner Certification: £660+VAT

Annual management fees for each scheme are £235+VAT. Recertification is required after three years, which has the same fees as year one.

  • Project Information Management (PIM) Practitioner Certification

BIM Informed Professional (BIP) Certification – You will be required to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the key principles relevant to multiple areas including:

  • Defining principal information requirements, whilst establishing an agreed set of project information standards and project information production methods and procedures.

  • The ability to describe the key concepts of a Common Data Environment (CDE) including conventions for its use, CDE solutions and workflow.

  • The key principles in establishing capability and capacity for information delivery.

  • A clear understanding of the parties involved in the approval, authorization and acceptance of information.

Task Information Management (TIM) Practitioner Certification – Evidence can be supplied to demonstrate a practical application of your knowledge as related to the functions in your organizational role or a clear understanding of the processes from first principles.

You will be expected to demonstrate your knowledge and application for some key areas including:

  • Ability to assess Task Team capability & capacity.

  • Establishing or maintaining the Task Information Delivery Plan (TIDP).

  • Generation of Information in accordance with the TIDP.

  • The checking, review, approval, and submission of information process. 

Project Information Management (PIM) Practitioner Certification – Evidence can be supplied to demonstrate a practical application of their knowledge as related to the functions in your organizational role or a clear understanding of the processes from first principles.

You will be expected to demonstrate your knowledge and application for some key areas including:

– Commercial management within the allocation of information management functions, delivery risks, tender response or developing and completing the post appointment tasks for the Lead Appointed Party’s EIR and appointment documents

– Delivery management within the pre-appointment BIM Execution Plan (BEP) or the confirmation of the delivery teams post BEP, detailed responsibility matrix and MIDP

–The mobilization of resources for the delivery team including implementation

– A clear understanding of the information model review in accordance with information standards and the projects information production methods and procedures

BIM Informed Professional (BIP) Certification is ideal for policymakers, advisors, students, lecturers and construction professionals, who are implementing the BIM Process and Individuals who may not work within an ISO 19650 environment.

It is suitable for those wishing to demonstrate their knowledge of the BIM process. This pathway to certification is knowledge based and does not require evidence of project experience.

Task Information Management (TIM) Practitioner Certification is suitable for those wishing to demonstrate their knowledge of the BIM process from a Appointed Party (Task Team) perspective. This pathway to certification requires a demonstration of your own knowledge, understanding and experience (where relevant), and is most appropriate for project-based construction professionals, e.g., Task Team Managers, who are involved in the application of BIM processes in an ISO 19650 environment.

Project Information Management (PIM) Practitioner Certification is recommended for those wishing to demonstrate their knowledge, capability, and experience of applying relevant processes and procedures on BIM projects, possibly for applicants with experience in a Lead Appointed Party’s function. This pathway to certification is most appropriate for project-based construction professionals who are involved in the application of BIM processes in an ISO 19650 environment.

Once the assessment form has been completed and returned, the assessment process takes approximately four to six weeks. You will then be provided with the auditor’s report and if any nonconformities are raised, you will have the opportunity to make one free resubmission to address them. If all scheme requirements are met, certification can be granted. You can make additional resubmissions if there are further nonconformities, but these will require payment of additional fees prior to assessment.

Certificates are valid for three years from initial issue, subject to completing 15 hours of BIM related CPD each year. After three years a recertification assessment will be required. On successful completion of recertification, a new certificate for the following three years will be issued.

The scheme for individuals, including the pre-requisite training courses, compliment the BRE UKAS Accredited ISO 19650-2:2018 certification scheme for businesses. It gives your business the confidence that individuals who have undertaken training and certification have a detailed understanding of the information management process. This will support your business with the preparation and the ongoing maintenance of business certification.
