Describes the new optimum start algorithm BRESTART for control of heating plant in conventionally heated buildings. The algorithm, which is based on detailed thermal response data from several UK buildings, exhibits significantly more accurate and consistent performance than most commercially available optimisers and additionally offers up to 8% further savings of fuel used for preheat. The paper is intended for users and manufacturers of optimisers to assist with improved design and better specifications.
