BRE renews partnership with Sweden Green Building Council
BRE and the Sweden Green Building Council (SGBC) have renewed their long standing agreement, confirming SGBC’s role as the National Scheme Operator for BREEAM SE and strengthening a collaboration that has supported the Swedish built environment for more than 13 years.
BREEAM SE is Sweden’s national adaptation of BREEAM, the world’s leading science based environmental assessment method for buildings. The updated agreement deepens both organisations’ commitment to driving sustainable construction through a rigorous, nationally tailored certification system.
Expanding the scope to refurbishment
The renewed licence formally extends SGBC’s remit to include Refurbishment, alongside New Construction. This recognises the growing importance of upgrading existing buildings - enabling the Swedish market to improve environmental performance not only through new developments but by revitalising the national building stock.
High quality sustainability standards for refurbishment projects are essential to accelerating Sweden’s transition to a low carbon, climate resilient built environment.
SGBC’s role moving forward
Under the updated agreement, SGBC will continue to:
- Lead the national adaptation and development of BREEAM SE for both New Construction and Refurbishment
- Maintain quality, consistency and integrity throughout the certification process
- Support the market in delivering high performing, sustainable new build and refurbishment projects
Florence Owens, BREEAM Partnerships Manager at BRE, said:
“This renewed agreement strengthens our long-standing collaboration with SGBC and reinforces our shared commitment to delivering science-based, credible sustainability standards for the Swedish market. Expanding the licence to include refurbishment recognises the crucial role existing buildings play in the transition to a low-carbon, climate-resilient future.”
Désirée Moberg, Head of BREEAM at SGBC, added:
“We look forward to continuing this strong partnership with BRE and working together with the industry to drive the transition towards a more sustainable and climate-resilient built environment in Sweden.”
Driving sustainable transformation in Sweden
The renewed agreement marks an important step in advancing the BREEAM SE framework and supporting Sweden’s wider sustainability ambitions across both new and existing buildings.
