BRE renews long‑standing partnership with Dutch Green Building Council for BREEAM‑NL

We have renewed our longstanding partnership with Dutch Green Building Council (DGBC) by signing a new licence agreement for BREEAM‑NL and extending DGBC’s role as National Scheme Operator. The agreement builds on a collaboration that began in 2009 and reflects a shared long-term ambition to ensure that BREEAM-NL remains the leading sustainability standard for the Dutch built environment.

The renewed agreement builds on more than 15 years of collaboration and strengthens the joint commitment of BRE and DGBC to advancing sustainable construction and development through a robust, science‑based certification framework adapted to the Dutch market. Through this partnership, we both aim to further enhance the relevance, accessibility, and impact of BREEAM‑NL for market parties and stakeholders.

As part of the renewed licence, we commit to working together proactively to improve the accessibility of BREEAM‑NL and increase the added value of the scheme for the Dutch built environment sector. These efforts are intended to support wider uptake of BREEAM‑NL and to maximise its contribution to sustainability performance across buildings and areas.

As the owners and managers of BREEAM at international level, we recognise the importance of maintaining strong collaboration with our national scheme operators. “DGBC has been a committed and influential partner for BREEAM for many years,” says Florence Owens, BREEAM Partnerships Manager at BRE. “By extending this agreement, we reinforce our shared commitment to delivering science‑based, credible sustainability standards that are firmly embedded in national contexts, while remaining aligned with the international BREEAM framework.”

“This renewed agreement provides long‑term stability and continuity for BREEAM‑NL in the Netherlands,” says Rudy van der Helm, Manager BREEAM-NL and Certifications at DGBC. “It enables us to continue strengthening the scheme together with the market and to further support organisations in accelerating sustainability in a credible and consistent way.”
