Weatherproof joints in large panel systems (Parts 1-3) (Scanned copy)
Please note that this is a scanned copy of papers originally published in 1986, so the text is not as clear as in documents created as pdf files.
A compilation of three publications to assist engineers in local authorities and elsewhere in appraisal, maintenance and repair of large panel system dwellings. IP8/86, IP 9/86 and IP 10/86.
The first part of this paper examines the basic types of weatherproof joints found in large panel system buildings, and their typical modes of failure. It includes a list of the types of cladding and joints associated with the principal large panel systems. Part 2 sets out the remedial options which are available when the weatherproof joints fail, and describes their functions and underlying principles, so that the information can then be applied to each individual weatherproofing situation. Part 3 suggests how a case of rain penetration in a large panel system may be approached, from the initial investigation and diagnosis through to the choice of an appropriate remedial measure.
