Part 1 of this Digest (Digest 117, May 1970, later revised as Digest 278, October 1983) explained some of the terms used in vibration studies and their relationships; it discussed human sensitivity to vibration and the effects of vibration on buildings.

This second part discusses some of the ways in which nuisance from vibration can be avoided or reduced to a tolerable level - by treatment at the source, by reducing the transmission of vibration and by providing protection against vibration from an external source. Several new buildings in London include protective measures to isolate them from vibration and low-frequency noise (the Barbican development, the Marble Arch Odeon, a block of flats, Albany Court near Victoria, and St. Mary's Hospital Medical School).

The numbering of figures is continued from the earlier Digest.
