This first part of the report describes the investigations of the construction of Large Panel System (LPS) dwellings carried out by BRE between April 1985 and August 1986. Part 1 covers the scope of the investigations and the findings in relation to large panel systems as a whole. It provides the basis for the guidance appraisal of structural adequacy and durability of LPS dwellings given in Part 2 of the report.
