This note discusses the main points which should be taken into account when designing flat concrete roofs, so as to reduce thermal expansion and contraction and keep a building cool in summer, and conserve heat and avoid condensation in winter. Designing roofs for coolness in tropical climates and whitening treatments to prevent heat absorption are also covered.
