At first sight there appear to be many different constructional techniques available to provide a reasonable standard of sound insulation between dwellings. In fact they are all based on a few simple principles and, once these are understood, the designer will be able to adapt designs to particular requirements.
This Digest explains the terminology and basic principles of the subject. It complements other digests (333, 334, 338 and 347) which contain more specific recommendations.
Digest 337 replaces Digest 143 which is withdrawn.
This 1988 edition was superseded by a new one in 1994.
