Describes how to distinguish between surface blemishes and decay that affects the properties of timber. It covers defects characteristic of specific timber species and their natural susceptibility to decay. The main focus is on those timbers used for aircraft construction, such as Sitka spruce, Douglas fir and Western hemlock.
