This Digest DG 286 replaced Digest 182 and was replaced by Digest 387 (October 1993).
This digest discusses the selection, use and maintenance of exterior wood stains, varnishes and other types of external natural finish. It also deals with discoloration by blue-stain fungi. Natural finishes are surface treatments; they will not provide significant protection against wood-rotting fungi.
