This paper, which supersedes IS8/78, discusses the background to the control of glazing in buildings and, in particular, is intended to overcome the confusion which often exists in the apparent conflict between known performance under standard fire resistance tests and (i) deemed-to-satisfy forms of construction, (ii) requirements concerned with structural fire protection and means of escape in case of fire.
