Recent developments in the design of solid fuel appliances and improved standards of thermal insulation are tending to alter the method of heating small houses. Formerly several open fireplaces were provided, but the tendency now is to install only one or perhaps two solid fuel appliances designed to heat several rooms and provide the domestic hot water. Features of the different types of solid-fuel space and water heaters designed for small houses are illustrated.
