Failure: Staining of internal plaster and decorations. Staining of external brickwork. Distortion and cracking of stack, cracking and disintegration of renderings. Expansion of brick joints in stack, causing curling and instability.
Defects: Chimney not lined and not insulated when built. Fuel or appliance used with the chimney has been changed.
