This Digest (in conjunction with no.45) shows examples of the external appearance of buildings after weathering. In some, the changed appearance has been brought about by faulty detailing or inadequate maintenance; in others, the change has been accidental. Facing materials illustrated and briefly discussed are: slate, brickwork, terracotta, concrete, cast stone, timber and metal.

 N.B. the contrast in the small black and white illustrations was not all that good even in the printed original; we have done our best with them in this scanned copy.
