A study of flat roofs covered with mastic asphalt and built-up bitumen felt roofing has disclosed the most common causes of failure and made possible an assessment of these roofings when properly designed and laid. It is suggested that they inspected at least annually so that action can be taken to deal with defects early enough to prevent their leading to failure.
