Interface Champions the Biophilic Office

At Interface we are passionate about making sure that the spaces where people work, live and play have a positive impact on both them and the planet. Most of us spend a huge amount of our time inside, so it’s absolutely vital that buildings help to bring out the best in people.

We understand that to really make a difference, a holistic approach is needed and requires a firm grasp of the different elements which can affect an individual’s creativity, productivity and ultimately happiness. That’s why we’re delighted to be a core partner in BRE’s Biophilic Office project, being delivered alongside Interface ambassador, Oliver Heath Design.

On the surface of it, the link between flooring and wellbeing might not be obvious, but we believe the two are intrinsically linked. We are advocates of biophilic design, the innovative approach to harnessing our affinity with nature through interior and architectural design. This inherent connection to the natural world is proven to have positive effects on our overall health and wellbeing. In fact, our Human Spaces Report is just one of around 50 which demonstrate this. It will be fascinating, and extremely valuable, to find out more about how biophilic design, in conjunction with other design features and interventions, affects people in an office environment, in controlled conditions.

Our passion for biophilic design comes from the belief that people need to be at the centre of any design. Interface products offer connected, integrated solutions which are both flexible and functional and fit in with any aesthetic. Our expertise in manufacturing and installing these products to create +Positive spaces will bring valuable insight to the Biophilic Office project and we’ll continue to blog about our involvement as the research progresses.

The results and data from this project will perfectly complement the existing work we are doing around the widespread benefits of biophilic design and will help inspire future design plans. It will also strengthen the business case for companies of all sizes to make sure considerations over biophilic design are at the centre of their plans, something we fully support.
