Inspiring places: The Living Planet Centre

The Living Planet Centre aims to showcase that through the smart use of design, materials and technology, a state of the art building can be created with little environmental impact. Achieving BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ the site backs onto ancient protected heathland and is bordered to the south by the Basingstoke Canal. Native plant species have been planted to encourage local wildlife and underground heat pumps and solar panels on the roof ensure the Living Planet Centre is at the forefront of sustainable design and construction. The Living Planet Centre conducts public tours allowing visitors to go behind the scenes and learn about how the building was constructed. Home to WWF-UK, the Living Planet Centre features the WWF Experience which has four interactive zones that bring to life the secrets of the natural world, and the threats it faces. Each zone focuses on one key theme; forests, rivers, oceans and wildlife and allows visitors to experience first-hand the sights, sounds and smells of their diverse natural environments. Further information can be found here https://www.wwf.org.uk/about_wwf/the_living_planet_centre2/ To visit the Living Planet Centre: Situated in Woking town centre the WWF Experience is open 9am-5pm Monday-Friday except public holidays.
