This Digest describes the major practical aspects of the construction of a short bored pile foundation based on the experience gained in collaboration with builders and local authorities on a number of jobs in which the method has been used. It provides approximate times for hand boring and advice on the use of mechanical augers. Safe bearing loads for piles of varying diameter and length are given in a table.
Correction: page 7, under ERRATUM, the word "inches" should read "circles".
