Summarises the work done at the University of Surrey for the Fire Research Station as well as giving an overview of studies in the United States at the National Bureau of Standards and the National Fire Protection Association. This has led to a model of human behaviour in fires. The implications of the model and the findings of the various studies are discussed in relation to training, education, publicity, design and legislation. 29 pages.
