This Digest and Digest 125 review the design and construction of drains and sewers in the light of recent studies. Part 1 is concerned with their structural design; part 2 will deal with water tightness, flexible joints, site work, and testing. The advice given in these Digests supersedes the earlier advice given in Digest no. 55 (1953), more particularly as regards the use of site concrete and methods of jointing.
This Digest explains the loads that may be imposed on underground pipework and gives the bedding and amount of cover that is required for rigid pipes.
