Created to improve the environmental impact and quality of civil engineering, CEEQUAL was initiated at the UK’s Institution of Civil Engineers and was acquired by BRE in 2015. BREEAM is our science-led sustainability scheme for the built environment. We’re delighted to announce that CEEQUAL will now be rebranded to join the BREEAM suite of products as ‘BREEAM Infrastructure’.

This rebrand will firmly bring infrastructure into the BREEAM suite of schemes and help demonstrate our holistic approach to improving sustainability in the built environment across different sectors and asset life cycle stages.

Our aim is to create a holistic approach to improving sustainability in the built environment across different sectors and asset life cycle stages.

CEEQUAL Projects will be known as BREEAM Infrastructure Projects V6, while CEEQUAL Term Contracts will be known as BREEAM Infrastructure Term Contracts V6.

BREEAM Infrastructure projects version 6

BREEAM Infrastructure Projects is for use on the assessment of all types or sizes of civil engineering, infrastructure and landscaping or public realm works (including the infrastructure associated with building developments) with a clearly defined project boundary and timescale.

This includes the construction or refurbishment of assets such as roads, railways, ports, wind farms, flood alleviation schemes, wastewater treatment works, and utilities, plus specialist projects such as demolition or remediation works.

BREEAM Infrastructure term contracts version 6

BREEAM Infrastructure (formerly CEEQUAL) is the world’s first sustainability rating scheme to improve the design, construction, and maintenance of infrastructure assets. We have developed BREEAM Infrastructure Term Contracts version 6 to replace the current version 5.

BREEAM Infrastructure Term Contracts is for the use on the assessment of civil engineering or public realm maintenance, or construction works (elements of projects, that are repeatable over a longer period of time) that are undertaken through framework contracts defined by their duration and geographic or operational area.

The new version includes categories, assessment issues, terminology, structure, ratings, minimum requirements and prerequisites. Contracts assessed against this new version will benefit from a single technical manual covering construction of small or repetitive works and maintenance inclusion of new and updated technical requirements. It will also feature a new ‘Outstanding’ rating level to align with BREEAM and the introduction of innovation category and credits.

All existing qualified BREEAM Infrastructure Projects assessors (previously CEEQUAL Projects assessors) can now take a BREEAM Infrastructure Term Contracts top-up training course so they can undertake assessments complete on all BREEAM Infrastructure assessments schemes.
