Evergrande awarded BREEAM Very Good Certificate for their Wuxi Canal Mansion residential development in Wuxi

One of China’s largest property development company Evergrande has received a ‘Very Good’ BREEAM design certificate for Wuxi Canal Mansion, an exemplar residential project in Wuxi in Jiangsu Province this Sunday (21 May). The development was
independently assessed by BREEAM Assessor Nottingham Sustainable Design Institute (NSD) and scored highly on most of the BREEAM categories for its energy and water efficiency, indoor air quality, space, daylighting and accessibility. The apartments have been provided with energy efficient elevator systems and lamps that help reduce energy consumption, clean air filters, water-saving appliances and rainwater harvesting technology. Evergrande Wuxi Project Manager Mr. Wang said “We are honoured and delighted to be the first project in Wuxi awarded BREEAM certificate, which proves our commitment to living sustainably. We will keep ensuring the wellbeing of our residents through continuous improvement in these areas and promote better quality of life in China.” Located on the bank of the ancient Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal in Liangxi District of Wuxi, the development also incorporates a large trade centre, a passenger transportation centre and metro hub, which helped Evergrande achieve highest BREEAM score for its transport facilities. With the green spaces covering over 30% of the 100,000 m2 area, Wuxi Canal Mansions have also been provided with permeable pavement and rainwater recycling technologies to improve site drainage, reduce direct surface runoff, avoid flood risk and reduce water pollution. President of BRE China Jaya Skandamoorthy said: “This represents another significant milestone for the Evergrande and BRE collaboration on green buildings and sustainable development. We hope their achievement will incentivise others to follow suit and help create a community of low carbon buildings that are cheaper to run, better located, and more able to cope with the demands of a changing climate.” This achievement follows the signing of the tri-party R&D agreement between BRE, Evergrande and China’s top university Tsinghua. The collaborative research agreement on sustainable urbanisation was one of seven exclusive UK-China collaborations that were signed as part of the UK-China business summit in London during the state visit of China’s President Xi Jinping to the UK in October 2015.
