BRE to provide sustainable development training to senior Chinese Government officials

Note: This press release is over six months old and the details may have been superseded. Please contact the Press Office for the latest information.

The BRE Group has entered into a collaboration with the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs (SAFEA) the leading Chinese government body responsible for providing international training to senior officials in the national, regional and local Government and to leading industrialists.

The training will focus on sustainable development and resilience in the built environment as China’s rate of urbanisation is set to increase from just over 50% today to 65% by 2030.

Currently all Chinese development projects must be aligned to the Government’s new 13th Five Year Plan. This sets out the national policy framework for delivering a built environment which  raises people’s living standards but does so in a sustainable and resilient way that promotes safe secure and healthy environments. Given the scale of development – 200 million people will need affordable homes over the next 25 years – the need for insight, knowledge and education is a prerequisite of success.

Jaya Skandamoorthy President of BRE China said ‘This collaboration with SAFEA allows us grow the knowledge base locally and to deliver our training to thousands of government officials who aspire to be leaders in environmental protection, green buildings and sustainable urbanisation’.

The agreement follows a visit by SAFEA to BRE’s HQ in London at which they visited the world famous BRE Innovation Park, and toured BRE’s laboratories and testing facilities, and learned about the BRE Academy and its extensive range of online and digital training services.

Pauline Traetto Director of BRE’s training arm the BRE Academy said ‘We are very pleased to sign this agreement. China looks to the UK for the knowledge and expertise its accumulated in these areas over the past two decades. This is a great opportunity for the BRE Academy and its world leading experts to share their expertise and help build a better Chinese built environment with our partners.’

The collaborative agreement also covers the promotion of BRE’s Standards and Certification schemes like BREEAM and LPCB to China and the provision strategic advice to Government.
