BRE appoints new Head of Responsible Sourcing

Dr Shamir Ghumra has been appointed as Associate Director; Head of Responsible Sourcing in the Centre for Sustainable Products at BRE. He will lead a team of experts who are helping construction supply chain companies understand and manage the risks and opportunities within their own products, services and labour supply chain. Formerly Principal Consultant at Responsible Solutions and Head of Sustainability at Aggregate Industries, Shamir also contributes to a number of ISO and CEN committees on sustainability in construction.
BRE Group Business Development Director Miles Watkins said ‘Shamir brings with him a wealth of experience in advising global blue chip businesses like Kier and AkzoNobel. We are very pleased to have him on board at a key time of growth in our business. ‘ Part of Shamir’s role will involve managing the Action Programme for Responsible Sourcing APRES, a network group which was created by Loughborough University and partners that BRE now manages. Shamir said ‘Responsible Sourcing is an increasingly significant driver for the construction industry. Customers and clients are not only demanding environmental impact data on the products they procure but they also want to know that the rights of the people working along the supply chain are protected and enhanced. What sets BRE apart from the competition in this field is its primary research which enables the team to develop challenging standards products and systems that support sustainable development and drive positive change in the built environment. It is a very exciting time to be joining BRE.’ For further information please contact Linda McKeown, BRE, email pressoffice@bregroup.com NOTES TO EDITOR BRE: We are a world leading building science centre and the authority on all aspects of the built environment.
