The Carbon Emissions Buildings Bill was introduced to parliament by MP Duncan Baker and seeks to require the whole-life carbon emissions of buildings to be reported and to set limits on embodied carbon emissions in the construction of buildings. Our CEO Gillian Charlesworth, commented:  

“We strongly welcome Duncan Baker MP’s bill to regulate embodied carbon in buildings. The built environment sector contributes almost a quarter of the UK’s total emissions and tackling embodied carbon will therefore be a vital part of the wider drive to net zero.

"We were pleased to see cross-party support for the bill, which we believe will go a long way towards addressing what is an under-discussed issue – helping to make it a core decision making criterion in the market.

“The availability of accurate, consistent data will be crucial to effectively measuring and reducing embodied carbon in construction, and this is an area in which BRE is leading through our internationally recognised expertise in Life Cycle Assessment and comprehensive Environmental Product Declaration scheme.

"We are proud to be collaborating with the Built Environment Carbon Database to collect and supply product data and entity level data to the construction industry.
