Fire Investigation Team
The BRE Global Fire Investigation Team are under contract to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) to carry out a research project called The Investigation of Real Fires, which has been running since 1988. The purpose of our work is to investigate fires which may have implications for the current Building Regulations, codes and standards, and to identify future research in this area. The project aims to ensure that the Building Regulations are underpinned with real data and remain relevant.
Neither MHCLG or BRE have any statutory powers of investigation. The quality of our research is dependent on the goodwill of the Fire and Rescue Services, building owners and people like you who capture footage of a fire incident on social media.
We will not use this image for any other purpose than research on behalf of MHCLG, though our reports can be subject to a Freedom of Information Act request.
Please read our privacy policy for more details.
