Dover Western Docks Revival (DWDR) is a one-off opportunity for the regeneration of Dover, bringing new investment into the area. The CEEQUAL assessment provided a management tool for the project team to conduct an overall review on the sustainability of the project.
The improvement of the junction is seen by the Welsh Government as an important part of its programme for economic regeneration providing access to jobs, safe reliable journeys, and improved resilience for the trunk road and local network in south east Wales.
The project achieved a CEEQUAL Excellent rating. CEEQUAL enabled more discussions in the project group about sustainability which lead to a better understanding and a higher level of knowledge within the project.
The main savings in the project as a result of implementation of CEEQUAL is related to transport and reuse of masses which indirectly reduce the need for purchase and transport of materials for road construction from external quaries.
The client’s drivers were primarily to use Ceequal as a tool to constantly improve the environmental and sustainability work and to increase its sustainability standard between each contract.
