Project Summary

The Glenconway Wind Farm was developed by Gael Force Renewables Ltd, a Joint Venture between McLaughlin & Harvey, Barr and WH Alexander on behalf of the client SSE Renewables. The project started in May 2012 and was completed in March 2013.

The overall project comprised the design and construction of the 18.4 MW-rated Wind Farm. This included 8 No. 2.3 MW rated Siemens wind turbines and associated access tracks of approximately 3.5km, crane hardstands, laydown areas, drainage systems, site compound, a permanent meteorological mast and a substation. The enabling works involved the design and construction of a 10 metre clear span bridge crossing over a tributary of the Loughermore River which was piled using steel mini piles. The works also involved the removal of the existing river crossing once the permanent crossing was installed.
