This extensive development is on a brownfield site. The building is owned and run by KLP Eiendom, and houses more than 80 shops and restaurants with a total area of 65 000 m2, including parking. It is the first shopping mall to receive BREEAM Outstanding certification.

Otopeni is the 250th store for PENNY Romania which marks the start of a new approach, focused more on people, digitization and sustainable development. PENNY Otopeni was designed to be a store where environmental and social solutions are brought together.
IKEA Hubhult was designed as a global meeting place for all of IKEA’s operations and was designed based on IKEA’s design philosophy when creating home furnishings. The four-storey building is set up to promote an activity-based approach for working and encourage interactions, with 80 meeting rooms and numerous quiet, creative, and open spaces.
The challenge was to obtain the highest scored BREEAM certified building in Romania and to demonstrate that significant reducing environmental impacts is possible. The BREEAM certification scheme helped the project team to manage the environmental impact with a balanced, multi-disciplinary approach.
