International support services and construction group, Interserve, is the first main contractor to be certificated as BIM Level 2 compliant under the BRE Global Business Systems Certification Scheme.

breinterservThe UK Government’s requirement that all construction companies tendering for government work achieve BIM Level 2 by 2016, reflects BIM’s growing importance as a technology for delivering construction projects by providing a common, coordinated source of information throughout the project lifecycle.

“Interserve has shown full commitment to BIM and offers a mature set of policies and procedures to its clients, performing confidently in a BIM Level 2 environment,” says Ben Curtis, BRE Global BIM Scheme Manager. “We hope this certification will inspire other contractors to follow Interserve’s lead and get their businesses ready for BIM, as the government compliance target is now less than a year away.”

Interserve can now use the BRE Global Badge of Compliance, having successfully undertaken the assessment-based procedure to measure BIM management systems and processes. “We are incredibly proud to be the first contractor to have achieved this certification,” says Ian Renhard, Managing Director of Interserve Construction. “It is concrete evidence of Interserve’s commitment to BIM as a key vehicle for delivering the best value to our customers.”

The certification process demonstrates that a company has the policies and procedures required to deliver BIM Level 2, meeting the requirements of PAS 1192-2:2013 and the PAS 91:2013 prequalification questionnaire document. “Despite a vigorous two-day site audit process,” says Alex Jones, Interserve’s National BIM Manager, “the BRE Global assessment team were both practical and helpful, and I would recommend their services to anyone wishing to test their compliancy.

“We have definitely earned this certification and we are very proud, having implemented UK BIM standards across demanding public and private sector projects. This is another milestone for Interserve as we transition from analogue to digital in preparation for the 2025 construction strategy target.”

Notes for editors

BRE Global’s BIM Level 2 Business Systems Certification scheme assesses a business, based at a single location relating to the BIM policy and capability as defined within PAS 1192-2:2013 and PAS 91 as well as assessing the ability of the business to meet the requirements of an employer to carry out a BIM capability assessment. The scheme has been designed to enable certificated businesses to demonstrate compliance with the PAS91-2013 section 4.2 so that as a BIM Certificated company you will not have to provide evidence of competence each time you undertake a tender. www.bre.co.uk/bim
